Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information this website (“the Site”) processes when you use the “What Is My IP Address” tool, and how that information is handled. The short version: the IP lookup tool does not keep IP addresses beyond standard hosting logs, does not set first-party cookies, and does not run analytics. Speed-test history stays only in the visitor's own browser and can be cleared; it is never sent to this Site. Google AdSense may set advertising cookies and similar identifiers, as explained below.

2. IP address processing

For the primary result, your browser requests this Site's same-origin /api/ip.php endpoint. The Site's server sees the request address, validates it with the server runtime, returns the address and whether it is IPv4 or IPv6, and does not store it beyond standard hosting logs. The endpoint never trusts X-Forwarded-For. For geolocation the browser tries one of three HTTPS providers in order — ipapi.co, ipwho.is, then FreeIPAPI — and uses the first usable response; ipify.org remains the separate IPv4/IPv6 detector. These services necessarily receive your public IP address in order to respond — exactly as any website you visit does. IP lookup results are rendered in your browser and are not saved in browser storage. The Speed Test transfers random test data between your browser and this Site's own server; the server counts and discards that data. The last five speed-test summaries, if storage is available, are stored only in this browser, are never sent to the server, and can be cleared from the tool.

3. Third-party services

  • Geolocation provider chain — one of ipapi.co, ipwho.is or FreeIPAPI, tried in that order; the first usable response returns city, region, country, ISP, coordinates and timezone. See the ipapi.co privacy policy, ipwho.is service and FreeIPAPI service.
  • ipify.org — returns your public IPv4/IPv6 address. See ipify.org.
  • This Site's server — the same-origin /api/ip.php endpoint sees your request address to answer the primary lookup and does not store it beyond standard hosting logs.
  • OpenStreetMap tile servers — the map loads image tiles from the OpenStreetMap Foundation, which receives standard request data (including your IP) to serve them. See the OSM tile usage policy.
  • CDN providers (unpkg, cdnjs/Cloudflare, Google Fonts) — deliver the page's libraries and fonts and may log standard request data under their own policies.

4. Cookies

The Site does not set first-party cookies, tracking pixels or fingerprinting identifiers. Google AdSense advertising technology may set or read advertising cookies and similar identifiers, and other third-party content such as map tiles may process standard request data, subject to those providers' own policies.

5. Advertising and Google AdSense

The Site uses Google AdSense to display advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites and to measure advertising performance. Read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google My Ad Center, aboutads.info/choices, and, for visitors in the EU, youronlinechoices.eu. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are shown a Google-certified consent message before personalized ads are served.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

6. Approximate geolocation

The map and location fields shown by the tool are approximate, IP-based estimates — typically the city or region where your provider operates. They do not represent your exact physical address, and the Site never requests your device's GPS or precise-location permission.

7. Analytics

No analytics service is currently integrated. If analytics are added in the future, this policy will be updated before they are enabled.

8. Data retention

The lookup endpoint does not retain the address beyond standard hosting logs. IP lookup results are not saved in browser storage. Speed-test payloads are discarded after counting; the optional speed-test history is stored only in this browser, never uploaded, and removable with the tool's Clear button. The contact form opens your own email application rather than submitting to this Site. Our hosting provider and the third-party services above may keep server or advertising logs under their own retention schedules.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU GDPR or California's CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data. The Site keeps only the limited request information described above, while hosting and advertising providers may have their own records. You may exercise rights against those providers and are welcome to contact the webmaster with any privacy question.

10. Children's privacy

The Site is a general-audience informational tool and is not directed at children. It does not ask children for names, accounts or other form data; network requests and advertising identifiers are handled as described in this policy.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will be revised and the new version will be posted on this page.
